McClendon Passes Bill to Continue Prevention of Auto Burglary & Theft Saturday, July 16, 2011 (347 reads)
AUSTIN, Texas -- House Bill 1541, authored by Representative Ruth Jones McClendon (San Antonio), passed the Legislature and became law June 17, without the Governor's signature. It will take effect on Sept. 1, 2011. Senator Jeff Wentworth sponsored the Bill to enrollment in the Senate. "I am grateful that we were able to pass this legislation because the money provided in grants to local law enforcement helps pay all or part of the salaries of some 200 police officers (10 in San Antonio), whose main job is to investigate auto theft. Without money from the Automobile Burglary and Theft Prevention Authority, many of these officers could have lost their jobs," said Representative McClendon.
